Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and music maestro AR Rahman will perform at the closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on May 29 in Ahmedabad.
Confirming the development Sportstar On Tuesday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly said that to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the board would also present a show describing the journey of Indian cricket over the last seven decades.
“With the host of the final in Ahmedabad, we will celebrate the country’s 75th independence, marking the journey of Indian cricket with a special show,” said Ganguly.
Eden Gardens in Kolkata is set to host two qualifiers, the board is also planning a small pre-match event, the details of which are being worked out. It is believed that some former India captains may also be invited for the final.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the country, the Government of India has launched the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ initiative showcasing its glorious history, culture and achievements. And two years later, BCCI is hosting the entire tournament in India and to make it special, the board wants to celebrate.
A few weeks ago, the BCCI had invited tenders from event companies about the closing ceremony, and after seeing representations from some agencies, it was decided to draw Ranbir and Rahman.
Interestingly, Ranveer has played the role of former India captain Kapil Dev in the recently released film ’83’.
