IPL 2022: ‘Love batting with David Warner,’ says DC’s Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh recorded his highest individual score in IPL 2022 against Rajasthan Royals at DY Patil Stadium here on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media after leading the Capitals to an eight-wicket win, he said his batting performance over the past two weeks has been rewarding for sticking to his routine and “procedures”.

Marsh came to bat in the first over to chase the Capitals’ 161 and saw a difficult phase of the game. That said, the plan was to be cautious during the powerplay and build a larger partnership with David Warner.

Match report

“If you see both teams in the powerplay tonight, the ball was swinging around, dealing with the surroundings as well. It was probably one of the most difficult powerplays I’ve ever batted in since I started playing T20 cricket. We assessed that we would have to go through that. If we were two or three down in that powerplay, the game would be really difficult. So, we assessed that we had to reduce our run, making sure we were one-down at the end of the powerplay. To his credit, he bowled exceptionally well for us in the powerplay and made it really tough.

“It’s just a big partnership away from chasing 160, so that was our main focus. For the last 18 months I have loved batting with Davy. With its opening and I was batting at 3, we have had a great partnership and tonight has been very memorable for the Delhi Capitals, “he said.

Marsh said he has been watching Warner for a long time and his friendship with him “comes out really well” in the middle of the game.

“In terms of the way he goes about it, he’s the guy I’ve been looking for a long time. That’s a great partnership. And a great friendship. I think friendship comes out really well in the middle of the game so it’s a lot of fun. His experience, his peace, you can all see how much he likes to win. “Coming back to Delhi, it all feels like it’s back to where it started for him. He’s been super consistent this year; I love batting with him,” he said.

R. of the Royals. Ashwin also played a superb innings, but he could not bat as long as Marsh. Ashwin said he has done a lot of work on his batting and he knew he would be ordered – he batted at No. 3 on Wednesday – at some point during the tournament.

“At the beginning of the season, I was informed that they would use me to place orders. We also had some practice games where I opened up and I enjoyed it. I have done a lot of work on my batting so it was a pleasure to see all the work done on the translation on the field. Feeling pretty good about Knock today; However, that did not result in a victory, “he said.

He felt the toss was decisive in the game.

“I thought the toss was crucial today because the wicket was very difficult. And obviously if we had a little luck or got caught maybe the game would have taken a different path. These things happen. The back of the tournament is always under pressure. Hopefully we can turn it around and get two wins together, ”he said.
