Josh Hazlewood made the most expensive spell ball in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against the Punjab Kings on Friday, ending 4-0-64-0.
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s fast bowler Sunrisers beat Marco Jansen of Hyderabad, who had earlier returned 4-0-63-0 against the Gujarat Titans in the tournament.
Hazelwood is followed by teammates Mohammad Siraj (4-0-59-2 against Punjab Kings) and Akash Deep (4-058-0 against Chennai Super Kings) in the list of the most expensive spells of the season. Super Kings’ Chris Jordan is in the top five with a 4-0-58-0 record against the Titans.
Hazlewood’s evening was an unforgettable start as Johnny Bairstow took a toll on the 31-year-old for 22 in the second over of the match, which included two fours and two sixes. Hazlewood recovered after giving up just seven runs in his second over. Jitesh Sharma hit two fours in a row to score 11 in Hazlewood’s third over as he came to bowl in the 16th over.
Having suffered a 40-run penalty in his first three overs, Hazlewood was bowled out for 19 and Punjab looked set to end their innings at a high level. An Englishman – Bairstow – sabotaged the Australian in the first over and inflicted another pile of torture on him; Liam Livingstone hit two fours and more sixes in 24 overs, leaving Hazlewood an incredible record to his name.
