A Skyrim player discovers his Dark Brotherhood’s Shadowmere horse standing in a peculiar location as it approaches the entrance to Mage College.
Bethesda Softworks has released Skyrim across multiple platforms over the years, and each release has been accompanied by bugs and glitches that have become familiar to fans of the developer. One Skyrim player recently happened upon his horse resting in a peculiar spot as it swings on a ledge.
Reddit user Kel6y posted a clip of her exploration of the world of Skyrim in which they appear to be trying to get into the Mage College of Winterhold, which is located on the northeast coast of Skyrim. Instead of leaving the Dark Brotherhood’s Shadowmere horse near the base of the stairs to the College of Winterhold, the player apparently led the horse down the narrow path until it could no longer continue. This causes the dark horse to act strangely when the player dismounts, as the video shows him practically standing on his hind legs while his front legs rest on the stone wall at waist height.
Kel6y’s clip begins with Shadowmere already halfway to the College of Winterhold as he stands on two feet and kicks the other two into the snow atop a nearby wall. The black horse then shakes its mane of snow which continues to fall from the sky as in most northern locations in Skyrim, such as Dawnstar or Windhelm. Kel6y’s video ends with Shadowmere looking at the Dragonborn before slowly blinking his red eyes, staring at the player for a brief moment as if unimpressed by his actions.
There are multiple guilds in each title in The Elder Scrolls franchise, and this is no different with Skyrim, with all of them offering their own unique rewards. Shadowmere can be acquired by completing quests for the Skyrim assassination guild known as the Dark Brotherhood until a guild member rewards the player with the mighty horse. The dark horse’s higher health is one of the main draws to acquiring the steed beyond its visual appearance, and the animal also aids players in combat.
Any Skyrim fans have pointed out that Shadowmere appears to be protesting the Dragonborn’s demands in the video, as it protests by stopping and blocking the way forward. Others have suggested that Shadowmere is not interested in the faculty of Mages, given their lack of use of magic and association with the Dark Brotherhood. Although Kel6y’s clip ends before the horse can move out of the way, the Skyrim player likely had to mount and move it to proceed towards the College of Winterhold.
Skyrim is now available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
