YouTuber makes a Frogger/Crossy Road game in Minecraft

It’s entirely possible for Minecraft creators to create a whole other game within a game, and YouTuber Mysticat reimagines a classic retro title.

In the last 10 years or more, Minecraft was considered one of the most successful IPs in the gaming industry. Given that it’s a game that has sold hundreds of millions of copies, its success is not surprising, and much of the popularity comes from the community itself. A lot of talented individuals create some really interesting contraptions and constructions, and sometimes people go a step further and use the blocky world to make a whole different game.

That’s what YouTuber Mysticat did. In a recent video, they managed to take Minecraft and build your own version of the classic arcade game Froggeror maybe the mobile version crossy road to make it a more contemporary reference. Using some command blocks, the reimagining sees players, in this case other YouTubers, trying to get from one end to the other, avoiding getting hit by cars and trains, and also jumping onto floating logs, similar to the source material.

It’s a really fun adaptation, and the video shows that it’s actually quite complicated. Perhaps the most intriguing thing about this project is that it builds on an earlier video Mysticat made. Not long ago, they were able to create a moving car inside Minecraft. While this latest footage is fun enough, it doesn’t do the complexity of doing it much justice. The creator clearly has a lot of skills to use commands and test ideas to fully achieve his goal.

Given that Frogger is a basic yet addictive video game with its origins in the early 1980s, the idea of recreating it within Minecraft it may seem quite simple. However, the fact that the YouTuber had to create a separate video that chronicles how they managed to make a drivable car possible, there’s obviously a lot to these types of projects than just building a stage and a few cars out of blocks. In addition, they also created their own version of Pac Man recently, so they obviously have a talent for creating complex structures.

As for the game itself, Minecraft should have the Wild update soon. There’s no official release date yet, but hopefully fans won’t have to wait too long. The game is constantly being updated by Mojang, with a lot of content being added to what is already a game with lots to see and do. No doubt Mysticat will continue to do some interesting things, so it remains to be seen what ideas they will conjure up next.

Minecraft is available for mobile, PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One.
