Revealed during the DC FanDome in August 2020, Gotham Knights has fans excited to embark on the action-RPG adventure with Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood to serve in the name of justice for Gotham City. An exciting co-op experience, Gotham Knights will certainly feature many references to different elements, characters, settings, and other aspects of the DC Universe.
Of course, when a game is released based on such an expansive universe, fans are immediately excited to find out about character cameos and other easter eggs. Marvel games and movies, DC games and movies, and even some of Nintendo’s cast-based games like Super Smash Bros. or Mario Kart are all goldmines for those little references to past work that have fans eager to discover all the secrets.
One such reference is discovered by Redditor AccidentRelevant4328 when he notices the name “Daggett” during DC’s game demo for Gotham Knights. The showcase, revealed on May 10, 2022, shows many details about the game, such as character gameplay, version differences, and even Gotham Knights build and update features. The name “Daggett”, of course, refers to Roland Daggett of Batman: The Animated Seriesone of the antagonists of the series that ends up becoming responsible for the creation of the villain “Cara de Clay”.
The name appears as a lit sign on a chain-link fence outside a factory-like structure that could only be a facility for Daggett Industries, which is Roland Daggett’s pharmaceutical company from the television series. Gotham Knights The story revolves around the game’s four main characters who, following the deaths of Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon, are tasked with solving Gotham City’s illegal nature. It remains to be seen how Daggett Industries will play a role in this lawlessness, but it’s likely to be an exciting co-op multiplayer adventure to be had when the game launches later this year.
Open-world RPGs are definitely in the spotlight in recent video game development, with players wanting bigger, fuller, more vivid and robust worlds with eclectic characters and dynamic events. Gotham Knights world promises random criminal events that players can see on a 3D holographic map and react to in real time, upping the ante and increasing immersion.
While many fans are wary of cast-based superhero games and worry about Gotham Knights Falling into the trap of trying to be “too much” at the expense of depth, it appears WB Games Montreal is working hard to ensure that doesn’t happen.
Gotham Knights is scheduled to be released on October 25, 2022 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
