Closed beta in progress from Blizzard for overwatch 2 continues, although it is planned to end later this week. Blizzard’s goal with the closed beta was to make an impression, though. While Blizzard isn’t delivering the full overwatch 2 experience as promised, it can win back players with quick updates and feedback responses. This is what is being done in overwatch 2‘s, which not only improves Mercy’s kit, but also balances changes to Sojourn and Baptiste.
The changes in Mercy are particularly interesting. Not every Mercy player may be aware, but the support character has a unique in-game interaction called Super Jump. Mercy players using Guardian Angel can crouch when the skill finishes flying high in the air, going higher than Mercy’s normal jump. Blizzard likes that Mercy has this ability and decided to make it simpler to use rather than something just for experienced players. Using crouch during Guardian Angel will now cancel it and launch Mercy into the air automatically.
Interestingly, it appears that Blizzard didn’t fix the initial issue with Mercy’s Super Jump before adding the new functionality. Testing for the patch shows that if overwatch 2 players try to complete the original Super Jump, they now jump three times higher than before. There are clearly some kinks to be ironed out in the patch.
In addition to Mercy’s change, the patch made major changes to Baptiste and Sojourn to improve the two underused characters. Baptiste’s healing has been improved. Her Regenerative Blast now heals 50 health instantly and another 50 over time. Also, instant healing will double for allies below 50 health. Sojourn, on the other hand, is getting a significant DPS bonus, increasing his Railgun rate of fire from 13 to 15 rounds per second and his Railgun ammo from 40 to 45.
While the patches in the planned update are not widespread, impacting only three of the overwatch 2‘s heroes, are significant changes. Improvements to Sojourn, in particular, can shake up overwatch 2current goal of. Adjusting the rate of fire can significantly increase your overall damage. As far as a late patch goes, it delivers.
It is unclear if this will be the last update for overwatch 2‘s closed beta before it ends next Tuesday, but it seems likely. Updates arrive on Thursdays of each week and there are no more Thursdays except for the beta extension. What comes after that for overwatch 2 fans remains to be seen.
overwatch 2The closed beta is now available for PC, but requires an invite.
