Several months after the release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, modders released a community patch to fix a number of minor bugs and annoyances in the remastered version of the first game. A similar community patch followed for the Legendary Edition Mass Effect 3 update. But the remastered Mass Effect 2 didn’t have a similar community patch – until now.
While the Legendary version of Mass Effect 2 has already dealt with the most glaring bugs of the best game in the series (not me @), there were still a lot of little things for the unofficial LE2 patch to fix. The long changelog shows many lighting fixes, changes to match NPC uniforms, fixes for inconsistent skin tones and misaligned props, plus typos. There are some more notable fixes, however.
If you played the previous game with the LE1 Community Patch installed, Shephard’s creepy superfan Conrad Verner will now correctly remember how you handled him instead of opting for the Renegade option. Individual mods have fixed this oversight before, but it’s nice to have it parceled out in the same patch which also ensures that asari in the Citadel no longer have human hands.
The changelog description “Communications animation fixed” may not sound like much, but it does away with something that has been bothering me for years. When characters held two fingers to their ears in the universal “I’m talking through a headset” gesture, if they weren’t wearing a helmet, they would still keep their hands a good four inches away from their head as if they were. The same bug was present in the third game until the LE3 community patch fixed it, and now it’s gone here too, I can finally stop grinding my teeth about it.
Several of the small changes amuse me, so here they are for your edification:
- Jacob won’t start typing on the air after Shepard is done with him.
- Male quarians can now blink.
- Hammerhead will no longer scream like an undead nightmare when mining nodes.
- Legion will correctly reference Shepard’s encounter with Sovereign taking place in Virmire (instead of Ilos).
- Restored eyelashes on Normandy crew members, including Ashley and Joker as the most notable cases.
- Shiala’s teeth are now visible.
As the Unofficial LE2 Patch FAQ explains, while their team contains several modders who contributed to the other two games’ community patches, they are a separate release group – hence the name change compared to the LE1 and LE3 community patches. . As no one else seemed to be working on an equivalent for Mass Effect 2, they stepped up.
They also note that this mod will continue to be updated to “more comprehensively address minor aesthetic and QoL issues”, they believed it was worth releasing now as in its current state it is still “a fully functional and bug-fixing mod”. “.
Time to update our list of the best Mass Effect Legendary Edition mods I think.
