Taika Waititi Forgot Natalie Portman Was in Star Wars and Offered Her a Role in His Movie

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has stated that he’s working with Disney on a new Star Wars film that will expand the lore of the popular space franchise.

For a long time, the director has stated that he’s in the midst of writing the script for his film, which will revolve around new characters in the series. While he doesn’t have a complete script yet, Waititi has looked around Hollywood for some actors, who will be part of his cast. Although, it seems like he has asked the wrong ones.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Waititi talked about his chat with Jane Foster actress Natalie Portman to bring her back with Thor: Love and Thunder, following her surprise omission from the director’s first go-around with the God of Thunder in Thor: Ragnarok.

While the director mentioned that it wasn’t particularly hard to convince her to return, he did however mess up later on by asking whether she was interested to play a role in his Star Wars film, as she’s already part of the franchise.

For people unfamiliar with the lore and world surrounding Star Wars, Natalie Portman joined the famed space franchise during the prequels as Padmé Amidala aka the Queen of Naboo. She first made her debut with the George Lucas-directed Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace alongside Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker. During the course of the prequels, she falls in love with Anakin, and she dies while giving birth to their twins in Luke and Leia in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

With Natalie already being part of the Star Wars lore, it looks like Waititi might have to make do with another actress. And looking at the fair share of stars Waititi has worked with over the years, he doesn’t seem to be lacking any options.
